How to cancel IRCTC railway e-ticket: Step by step guide

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made it simple for travelers to book their railway tickets in just a few minutes while sitting at their place. People can now book their railway tickets through their mobile phones by using IRCTC website or application software (app). The cancellation of tickets is as simple as booking an online ticket, but it can be time consuming if a person is unaware of the cancellation rules for confirmed, waitlisted and RAC tickets for sleeper and AC classes.

How to cancel railway e-ticket:

Online tickets or e-tickets booked through IRCTC portal can be cancelled online till the time of chart preparation. Follow the given steps to cancel your e-ticket: Step 1: Visit the official website of Indian Railways, irctc.co.in

Step 2: Go to 'Booked Tickets' link Step 3: Select the ticket to be cancelled by selecting the passengers to be cancelled. Step 4: The cancellation will be confirmed online and the refund would be credited back to the account used for booking, after deduction of applicable cancellation charges.

Partial cancellation of ticket:

If there is any partial cancellation of ticket, make sure that a fresh e-reservation slip (electronic reservation slip) is printed separately as done for the original ticket.

Steps for booking railway reserved ticket on IRCTC website/app from mobile phone:

Step 1: Login to URL irctc.co.in/mobile with your existing IRCTC user id and password or download the app of IRCTC

Step 2: Click on 'Plan my journey' under the option for 'Train Ticketing' Step 3: Select the journey date, train and continue the booking Step 4: Use existing passenger list or add passengers. Step 5: Confirm booking details and make the payment through credit/debit card/UPI/Paytm After booking, the passenger will receive a reservation message with full details of the ticket including PNR, train number, date of journey, class etc. Showing the reservation message of the confirmed ticket on their mobile during travel will be sufficient.
